You Want Change? We’ve Got Big Ones for You
Sure it’s resolution season right now, but far too often they are packed away with the holiday decorations. Maybe they’re too grandiose or decidedly vague.
But what about actual lifestyle changes that help make some of the most successful business people – Arianna Huffington, Tony Robbins and Richard Branson – who they are?
Marguerite Ward, writing for CNBC, says that Tony Robbins “sets aside 10 minutes each morning for reflection and mindful breathing. Spend three minutes thinking about three things you’re grateful for…three minutes feeling at peace…Finally, three minutes envisioning three things you want to accomplish.”
Charlie Munger, the sage Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, recommends carrying a book with you. “In my whole life, I have known no wise people who didn’t read all the time – none, zero. Studies have found that people who read show higher levels of empathy and emotional intelligence and are more likely to stay mentally sharp.”
For billionaire Richard Branson, an avid runner and cyclist, it’s about exercise. He says “he is twice as productive when he exercises.”
Sleep is another important element to being successful. And really, shouldn’t this be the easiest resolution to keep? Ever?
Dr. Philip Gehrman, assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania says “Most people need a good hour of winding down time before they’re just physically and mentally ready to go to bed.”
Media mogul Arianna Huffington recommends keeping your smart phone out of the bedroom. She says that “feeling constantly exhausted is one of the easiest ways to derail your own career.”
There you have it. Your simple prescription for success in 2018.
