Chicago, Now That’s An Eventful Kind of Town
When Rose Horcher, Vice President of Client Services for Choose Chicago, the official destination marketing organization for Chicago, starts talking about her city, she lists things like the cleanliness, the world-class dining scene, the vast variety of hotel offerings and meeting places. There’s the warm Midwestern hospitality.
Let’s begin with food. Chicago’s amazing Restaurant Week (January 25-February 7) gets started with the First Bites Bash at The Field Museum. “It’s a ‘can’t miss’ event for foodies,” says Rose. “Chicago is also the home of the ‘Oscars of the food world,’ the James Beard Awards (May 6).”
You want a great music event? Lollapalooza hits the Windy City from August 1-4 this year. The Chicago Auto Show – the country’s largest – will get you revved up from February 9-18 at McCormick Place.
It’s a nirvana for car lovers!” says Rose.
Then there’s this for the sci-fi fan in all of us. The Star Wars Celebration (April 11-15) will be five days for the global community of ewoks, wookiees or Stormtroopers to unsheathe their lightsabers. Or whatever ewoks do.
Rose also loves the over 200 neighborhood festivals in the city. A personal favorite is Retro on Roscoe, which features three stages for local bands of myriad genres.
And then there are so many world-class sporting events to take in, if that’s your jam.
One more thing. Don’t leave the city without seeing it from the sky via helicopter, by land in a Big Bus or Chicago Trolley, or by sea on Lake Michigan or on an architectural tour on the Chicago River.
There’s so much more! And with NHS Global Events being based in Chicago, many of our team members have incredible knowledge and passion for the city and their own secret spots that they love and are happy to share!
