Christmas in Chicago
December is finally here which means Christmas is just around the corner! For those of us that have lived in Chicago, we already know what to expect weather-wise. But whether you love the snow or not, Christmas in Chicago is always beautiful! There are always places to go and things to see to get you into the holiday spirit. For anyone new to Chicago, we welcome you with some of our favorite Christmas events to visit.
Your first stop should definitely be to visit Chicago’s Christmas tree in its brand new location this year – Millennium Park! Every year, Chicago starts off the holiday season with the Lighting Ceremony of their Christmas tree. This year, the tree lights up the Chicago skyline with thousands of beautiful lights and decorations in Millennium Park. Make sure to stop by and check out this magical tree.
While visiting the Christmas tree, you can stop by the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park. This rink has been open for the past 14 years and is FREE to the public. Stop by with the family for the perfect holiday outing that is sure to get everyone into the winter spirit as you skate surrounded by Chicago’s beautiful skyline and Millennium Park monuments. Click for a list of dates and hours. Ice skate rental is only $12.
After some ice skating downtown, stop by the Christkindlmarket. Inspired by German markets, this is Chicago largest open-air market featuring iconic German gifts – authentic nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks, beer steins, ornaments, wooden trinkets along with authentic German food and drinks! The traditional hot spiced wine is a favorite of ours to help you keep warm! Make sure you stop by to get your holiday shopping done. The market opens at 11 AM every day until Thursday, December 24th at the Daley Plaza, so make sure to stop by to get your holiday shopping done.
Last but not least, Lincoln Park Zoo puts on their holiday event ZooLights! Every year they help us get into the spirit of Christmas by decorating the zoo with thousands of incredible decorations and lights that brighten up the night. Come visit the animals and drink some hot beverages as you explore the zoo after hours. ZooLights is a FREE event that will light up the zoo every night until Sunday January 3rd, 2016.
Make sure to advantage of the warmer weather this holiday season and spend some time exploring Chicago with friends and family. There are always plenty of events and places to see to help you get into the holiday spirit. Check out this holiday event calendar for more fun activities!
